Physiotherapy is a science-based health care profession with an emphasis on the use of physical approaches for promotion of health, prevention of diseases and management of disabilities. It addresses problems with movement, dysfunction and pain which may arise from musculoskeletal, neurological, respiratory, and chronic disabling conditions, or from mental illness and intellectual impairment.
Being one of the largest Allied Health professions in United Christian Hospital, Physiotherapy Department aspires to establish the highest quality of patient service, which is sensitive to the needs of individual, hospital, and community by a group of committed staff processing distinct expertise and skills commensurate with the highest standards of the profession. Currently there are almost 90 physiotherapists working either in United Christian Hospital or Yung Fung Shee Memorial Center who are dedicated to serving the populations living in Kwun Tong district.
Physiotherapy Department is proactive in holistic care and hence provides a comprehensive range of services encompassing acute in-patient, extended care rehabilitation, ambulatory out-patient and out-reach services. Patients are from various clinical specialties including Orthopaedics & Traumatology, Medicine & Geriatrics, Surgery, Intensive Care, Paediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Accident & Emergency, etc. Department is also engaging in clinical education of physiotherapy undergraduates and has been taking up Occupational Safety and Health related responsibilities which obviously contribute by strengthening the safety culture establishing in Kowloon East Cluster.
